HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO CLEAN YOUR MATTRESSES?
In 2002, the National Institute of Health published the results of a 3 year study determining that 46% of North American homes have bedding with enough dust mite allergen to cause allergies. Of these homes, 24% had levels that were five times greater than the threshold to cause allergic reactions! Doctors now recommend that the most important way to reduce symptoms, control and prevent the development of allergies and asthma is to avoid or minimize exposure to these indoor allergens.
DUST MITE ALLERGIES
Dust mites are microscopic, eight-legged creatures that are 0.3mm in length (7,000 can fit on a fingernail) and are invisible to the naked eye. What’s worse? The average mattress contains over 2,000,000 dust mites! A recipe for allergy disaster!
It is the dust mite feces that causes the development and aggravation of allergies. A dust mite will produce 200 times its own body weight in feces during is short lifespan! Mattresses contain 60% of the dust mites found in the home. Given that we spend up to one-third of our lives in the bedroom and exposed to this highly potent allergen for long periods of time, the bedroom is the number one treatment priority.
PET ALLERGIES
15% of the U.S. population is allergic to pets and other animals. Many people are unaware that they suffer from pet allergies. Symptoms include watery and itching eyes, hives, sneezing, coughing, wheezing and difficulty breathing.
Between 75% and 90% of families with pet allergies do not take physician’s advice and remove their pets from the home.
ENJOY SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED ALLERGEN LEVELS
Naturally, you have to maintain a commitment to anti-allergen cleaning and treatment as part of an Environmental Control program. That’s because unfortunately, we can never eliminate dust mites and often can’t part with a beloved pet. And animal allergen can persist in the home for years even after the source has been removed, making consistency of Environmental Control efforts a critical factor in keeping allergen levels low.
